Age 26, 1st Lt. Robert F. Welch III, died Sunday of wounds he received when insurgents attacked his base April 3, 2011, in Khowst Province, Afghanistan.
Robby was an ordnance officer assigned to Company B, 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke.
Robby graduated from UT-Arlington in 2008 with a degree in military science and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
Among his awards were the Army Achievement Medal, as well as the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, both awarded posthumously.
In Robby’s hometown of Wylie, Texas, he played football, participated in Junior ROTC and served as a leader in his church youth group. He graduated from Wylie High School in 2003.
Wylie is where Robby met his wife, Becky, who gave birth to their first child last year, Robert Welch IV.
He is survived by his wife Becky (Brill) Welch and son Robert Welch IV, parents Robert II and Barbara Welch, and sister Jane Welch.

Riders will prepare the flag line prior to the funeral
service and be in position to welcome family and friends.
The service is scheduled to begin at 10AM. After the service
begins we will prepare for the procession to DFW National
Cemetery. The departure time is planned for 12 Noon. Dallas
DPD will provide LEO support to the cemetery.

The interment service is scheduled for 1:30PM. The shelter
location is NOT known at this time. If you cannot be part of
the procession, please go direct to the cemetery and prepare
the flag line.
Big flag bikes will hold with the
procession. All other riders will meet at the information
center, brief, and proceed to the shelter to prepare for the
internment service.

- Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and
appreciated.
- Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate
(including the night before) before any outdoor activity and
to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at
any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get
indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do
not forget your sun screen.
