Obituary:
|
Jerome L. "Jerry" Brien departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Monday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment: At a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Jerry was born on Feb. 4, 1947, in Smith Center, Kan., to John and Opal Brien. He was raised on a farm in Athol, Kan., and loved the farm and the land that his family worked for several generations. Every chance he got, he returned to the farm where he and his sister have maintained the land and have managed to keep it a working farm that his family would have been so proud of. Jerry remained close to all of his friends in Kansas over his years away from the farm. Jerry served his country for over 32 years as an active member of the Air Force for four years and as a member of the Air Force Reserve for the duration of his career. He retired in 2001 as a senior master sergeant from the 301st Fighter Squadron at JRB Carswell. Jerry was very proud of his contribution to this country and very proud of all the men and women who continue to serve. Jerry enjoyed working on and restoring old cars and tractors and numerous other equipment. He was a gifted and talented mechanic. He was president of the Granbury Fly Wheelers Association, a member of the VFW Post 8235 and a member of the American Legion in Kensington, Kan. The Brien family would like to thank all of Jerry's friends who came every week over the past couple of years to give Jerry and his family support and encouragement, especially Carl Bonifas, who truly knows the meaning of friendship. To all of you, the loyalty and love will never be forgotten. Thanks to all of the neighbors who have helped the family and been there for them everyday giving their support relentlessly. And a special thanks to Covenent Hospice who cared for Jerry at his home for the last few months. He will be missed by his family and many friends more than he could imagine. Survivors: Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara; their daughters, Amy and Angie Brien, both of Fort Worth; sister, Mary Lattin and her husband, Bill of Hays, Kan.; nephew, Travis Lattin and his son, Nathan, of Beloit, Kan.; niece, Jackie Lattin and her son, Caden,
of Hays, Kan. Read more:

Jerry was a friend, a co-worker, and at one time worked for
me. He was into old cars and did some great work on
restoring them. He was always ready to help the specialists
who worked his jet or to help others when they needed it. He
will be truly missed.
