Obituary Highlights:

Lt. Col. Robert S. "Bob" King, USAF Ret., age 86, received his final transfer orders on July 24, 2014, in Georgetown, Texas. Born and raised in Abilene, Texas, Bob attended Texas Tech briefly before pursuing his passion for flying by joining the United States Air Force as a member of Pilot Class 49-C. He was a 25-year career pilot logging almost 10,000 flight hours, including almost 1500 hours in combat. Early in his career he flew C-119s and C-123s, as well as Beverleys while serving an exchange tour with the Royal Air Force. The majority of his career, however, was spent in the C-130 Hercules, primarily in Air and Sea Rescue. He served in Indochina, Korea, and flew the Airborne Command Post over Vietnam. He also commanded the 76th Air Rescue and Recovery Service at Hickam A.F.B., Hawaii, during the later Apollo missions, including the recovery of the Apollo 13 command module. His multiple medals and commendations include the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Bronze Star.

Comments:

- Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated.

- Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do not forget your sun screen.

- Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for this patriot and their family. NO TALKING, SMOKING, CHEWING OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS, OR CELL PHONE USE IN THE FLAG LINE!

- We will park along the main street close to the designated shelter with 2 bikes side by side as close to the curb and each other as possible so that traffic can get by.

- Riders NOT UTILIZING HANDICAPPED PARKING are requested to park as far forward as possible at the Visitor's Center to keep the closest spaces available for other guests.

- Cemeteries are hallowed ground. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Show our respect to ALL who are there, not just the one we are honoring.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate beginning the night before the mission.
