Obituary Highlights:
|
Sergeant Major Cebran L. Van Horn, passed away peacefully at this home on July 17, 2014. “Sarge” as he was known to most who knew him, was born to Powell and Delphia Marie (Wilson) Van Horn on September 18, 1929 in Louisa, Kentucky. He entered the U.S. Army on January 6, 1947 at the age of 17 where he began a long and successful military career. Sarge was in the 29th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry division. Sarge fought for his country in the Korean War where he was seriously wounded by a missile in South Korea on September 2, 1950 and was awarded the Purple Heart. During his 21 year military career he was awarded numerous citations, ribbons, awards and medals.
He was Commander of the ROTC program, The Honor Guard and the Pershing Rifle team at Rice University in Houston before being transferred to Midwestern University in 1963. After transferring to Midwestern, he began a journey that would lead him to many young men that would become friends for life. By many of these young men he was considered a mentor. At Midwestern, he was commander of the ROTC program, the Rifle Team and the Honor Guard.

After retiring from the military in August 1968, he began teaching the ROTC program and was Commander of the Rifle Team and Honor Guard at Wichita Falls High School.

Funeral Home in Wichita Falls and the small country
cemetery in Charlie, TX.

front of the funeral home and stand an honor flag
line in front of and at the entrances to the funeral
home for the service. Once the service starts, we
will return the flags to the support truck and
prepare for the trip to the Charlie, TX cemetery.

are honoring.
